Banavie Primary has worked extremely hard to increase sustainability by implementing various eco-strategies throughout the school.

We have been recycling our old bottle tops!

From rubbish to mural in no time at all!

The Primary Seven class have continued to take responsibility for buying and selling a variety of local and Fairtrade produce. The healthy tuck shop is a popular choice for break time snacks and pupils thoroughly enjoy their healthier snacks.

The Primary Seven enterprise this year was to create an Eco-bag. Each pupil designed their own bag and the whole school had the opportunity to vote on their favourite design. Many Banavie bags were sold as Christmas presents.

As well as developing the Eco-garden, pupils have been helping Reverend Corbett develop his garden. Pupils dug a large vegetable patch and will soon be planting a selection of vegetables to be enjoyed by the school.

The Eco-Committee have been working with Ruari from the Forestry Commission to develop our Eco-garden. Our focus this year is to concentrate on biodiversity. We have provided a range of homes for wildlife to increase biodiversity:
  • A range of bird houses were made and placed in the Eco-garden and around the school grounds.
  • A pond is a new feature in our garden, which now is the home to many tadpoles.
  • As bees are extremely important for pollinating our gardens, a bee box has been placed in our hawthorn tree. Birds thoroughly enjoy our garden, especially Oyster Catchers, who regularly visit.

  • Finally, pupils used willow to make a trellis for our garden to enable us to grow Buddleia.

The Primary Five/Six class have raised awareness of healthy eating and exercise.

We make a conscious effort to re-use paper, textiles and cardboard for our art activities. The Primary Five/Six class made large 3D models to represent 13th century lords and ladies.

What is your carbon footprint?

Consider the following......

The average car commuter drives 19 miles
a day: car sharing with one other person
can save 640kg of CARBON DIOXIDE
from polluting the atmosphere every year.
